Xess.io converts classic chess into an action game in which all moves happen instantly. There is no turn-based play, but you play continuously on the same battlefield, grabbing pieces to form your own army. Initially, you have only a king, but as you progress and recruit better pieces, your aim changes from survival to domination of the whole battlefield.
Each game sees you alone with your king piece. Get hold of pieces belonging to either neutral or opponent players to build your army.
The captured piece automatically becomes part of your army and retains its chess move rules. Knowing the role of every unit helps you make strategies for any situation.
Your king is always your most important piece in a game, and losing your king means ending the game instantly regardless of how many pieces you have left.
If you expand yourself too widely, you’ll be leaving your king open to attack. Always make sure you have defensive pieces around you and think twice before chasing your opponent’s pieces.
Xess.io doesn’t use the turn system found in regular chess, making real-time strategy much more crucial in this version of the game. Pieces such as the queen are highly valuable for this reason.
